Report of the Provo Rotary Luncheon Meeting March 21, 2013

The meeting was conducted by President Vaughn Park. Dinner music was provided by Ron Roberts.The singing was conducted by Jill Moon.

 Guests included Marisha Besgieter of the Ogden Rotary Club, Joan Dixon and Teresa Tavares from Centro Hispano who were attending as guests of Linda Palmer, and Cathy Bledsoe of the Provo School District.

 President Vaughn Park expressed thanks to Wayne Beesley for a successful girls night family party last Thursday. Nearly eighty Provo Rotarians and guests attended. 

Ray Beckham spoke about our club's pledge of $50,000 for the new Provo Recreation Center and encouraged club members to pledge toward this gift, payable over the next three years.

The annual district assembly will be held in Salt Lake City this Saturday, March 23.

The Provo Police Department is conducting a survey about the needs of those in our community over age 50.

President Vaughn Park spoke about the annual Rotary district conference May 3-5, Friday to Sunday in Ogden. Marisha Besgeiter of the Ogden Rotary Club showed a video presentation about it.
Val Hale
Val Hale invited everyone to the annual Pillar of the Valley gala March 29 at the Utah Valley Convention Center sponsored by the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce. Honorees this year are LaVell and Patti Edwards.

Dean Jackson is retiring as pastor of the Rock Canyon Church. There will be an open house honoring him April 18 at Riverside Country Club.

Steve Sabins
Steve Sabins introduced today's speaker, Provo Rotarian Greg Hudnall, who spoke about the HOPE initiative regarding suicide in Utah. Greg began this program several years ago. Teachers in the Provo School District are trained to recognize signs of anticipated suicide and have prevented around 100 potential suicides in Provo during that time. There has not been a suicide death among school-age youth in more than eight years. Learn more at http://www.hope4utah.com.
