Report of Provo Rotary Luncheon Meeting February 14, 2013


The meeting was conducted by President Vaughn Park. Dinner music was provided by Ron Roberts. The singing was conducted by Jill Moon. Kirk Parkinson offered an invocation.

Guests included Gary Moon, husband of Jill Moon, and Cole Parkinson, son of Kirk Parkinson. Seth Merrill visited as a potential Provo Rotarian.

Darrell Jakins spoke about the fire at his business in Lindon last week. He said he is still in business working from another location and dealing with the insurance issues. Our best wishes go to you, Darrell!

Ron Pugh mentioned he is off to Guyana (South America) for a humanitarian trip. He will be giving food and other aid courtesy of the Provo Rotary Foundation's generous gift.

Scott Smith spoke about the Provo Rotary Club's commitment to the funding of the Provo Recreation Center. Pledges are being accepted to be paid over a three-year period.

President Vaughn Park reminded everyone of district conference in Ogden coming up May 3-5.

The Cedar City Rotary Club is having a fund-raiser March 20. If you eat at Chili's that night mention the Cedar City Rotary Club's gift to the Intermountain Healthcare hospital and 15% of your check will be donated to them.

Paul Warner mentioned that the Freedom Festival is sponsoring a free evening at the movies Monday, February 18 at the SCERA with a screening of the movie "Gettysburg."

Pete Pletsch served at sergeant for the day spotlighting unusual Valentine's gifts (a leaf blower -- really?).

David Rogers introduced today's speaker, Coach Dick Hunsaker, head basketball coach at UVU. The coach is now in his 30th year at UVU.

Dick spoke about their program over the year, Ronnie Price (now in his 8th year in the NBA) and other distinguished basketball alumni, about the current team and schedule, his own kids who play basketball, and mentioned the distinguished coaching career of the late Rick Majerus. Thanks, Coach, for an enjoyable and entertaining presentation.
