Report of the Provo Rotary Club meeting held July 1, 2010

The Rotary luncheon was held at the Provo Downtown Marriott Hotel. President Steve Sabins conducted the meeting. Steve Tolley lead and Ron Roberts accompanied the singing of the Anthem and Pledge. Bill Bridges offered an invocation.

Jill Moon reported that Dwight Flickinger is struggling and has back surgery coming up.

President Steve Sabins presented several checks reflecting donations from club members during the just-completed 2009-2010 Rotary fiscal year:

    Jack May accepted a check for $2,738 for the Provo Rotary Education Foundation.
    Bill Bridges accepted a check for $1,500 for the UVU Athletic Scholarship Fund.
    President Steve Sabins reported that $4,283.92 has been donated to the Provo Rotary Charitable Foundation.
    President Steve Sabins reported that $10,400 has been donated to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

President Steve Sabins presented checks to five childrens charities from earnings of the club-sponsored Rotary Festival Classic charity golf tournament held June 21:

    The Provo School District Foundation was awarded $2,620
    The BSA Utah National Parks Council was awarded $2,391 (Terry Richardson shown above 2nd)
    Canary Gardens was awarded $3,550
    Heritage Schools was awarded $4,400 (Glen Zaugg shown at left)
    America’s Freedom Festival Hope of America was awarded $5,880





Paul Harris Fellowships were awarded to the following for contributions to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International:

Karen Ford (above 3rd, accepted by Roger Ford)

Allison Sabins (above 4th)

Jack Schroeder (posthumous presentation to Steve Sabins’ grandfather)

The time was turned to Jack May, outgoing past-president, who issued Steve Sabins an honorable release as club president for 2009-2010 and presented him with a plaque and a past-president lapel pin. He then installed the new club officers (see photo below):

Tamara Tolley made some comments about Rotary and their trip to the international Rotary convention in England last year. She's the new First Lady of the Provo Rotary Club.

At the conclusion of the inductions Andy Anderson auctioned a quilt made by Tamara Tolley as a donation to the Provo Rotary Charitable Foundation. It was purchased by Ruth Riley. (See photo of the quilt at top of this bulletin.)

Steve Sabins made some parting comments reflecting on his year as club president.
