Report of Provo Rotary Meeting Held April 17, 2014

Todays meeting was conducted by President Glen Zaugg with Ron Roberts playing the piano and Jill Moon leading the singing of the National Anthem. Jill Moon led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, which was followed by the opening prayer.
There were many guests attending today. David Rogers introduced Brian Blumer, Parley Hansen and Micah Howard his guest from UVU. Jonathan Cavender, potential new member and local attorney was attending with us. We are anticipating inducting Jonathan next week. Don Jarvis introduced Carson Ralphs, President of the BYU Rotaract Club and Kilee Endicott, Vice President of the BYU Rotaract Club. In addition there were ten guests associated with or interested in the Days For Girls organization. Chaplain Paul Warner noted that Alan Blom's health was improving, that Linda Palmer's father had fallen but was doing better under Linda's care, and Ricky Hood's son had had a close call with death, but corrective surgery solved the issue.

Ann Lewis wife of John Lewis introduced todays speaker, Celeste Mergens, Founder and Executive Director of Days for Girls International. Days for Girls is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing washable feminine hygiene kits to women and girls in third world countries where disposable products are unavailable or unaffordable. Products are distributed by a grass roots organization of certified Ambassadors of Women's Health recruited at the local level. They teach health, hygiene, safety and sanitation. They also provide information on reproductive health, rape and self defense decisions.
There is a Utah Valley affiliate to the Days for Girls International.
