Report of Provo Rotary Meeting Held October 17, 2013 

Glen Zaugg conducts the meeting
Today's meeting was held at the Riverside Country Club at Noon with President Glen Zaugg conducting.  Ron Roberts provided the music and Jill Moon lead the singing of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The opening prayer was offered by Linda Palmer. Ricky Hood introduced his guest Shawn McGoff, his boss who was in town visiting from Denver.  In the way of announcements, it was noted with sadness that deceased club member Dwight Flickenger's wife has had a reoccurance of Cancer at an advanced stage and is not doing very well.  On a happier note, it was announced that Clear Horizons Academy will be holding their Eighth Annual Gala Dinner and Auction on Saturday, November 2nd.  Those interested should contact Carol Walker if you didn't pickup an invitation at the meeting.

Carol Walker introduces Henry Whiffen
Carol Walker introduced Henry Whiffen, noted author and investment advisor.  Henry talked about strategies that allowed high networth individuals to avoid inheritance taxes when they pass away.  He also talked about ways to redirect some of those assets to charitable purposes.  He also talked about way to help succeeding generations retain the inheritances.

Our speaker this week was Sven Wilson, professor and chair of the Political Science Department at BYU.  Sven is also the visionary and founder of the Character First movement as highlighted on the Doug Wright show on KSL radio . For this week's meeting,  Sven focused his thoughts on rejecting the populist movement circulating in today's politics and spoke about the necessity of a strong leader who shows compassion and isn't afraid to admit when he or she is wrong. Just another way to keep politics civil and promote goodwill in all aspects of life.

Glenn Jakins visits Rotary

Today we were pleased to hear from Glenn Jakins. After being introduced by his brother and our fellow Rotarian Darrell Jakins, we were able to hear about his innovations and business ventures, as well as his journeys from Johannesburg, to Cape Town, to London, and eventually Utah.
