Report of Provo Rotary Luncheon Meeting October 25, 2012

Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club. President Vaughn Park conducted with Jill Moon and Ron Roberts providing the music. An invocation was offered by Robert Redd.

Jill Moon introduced her guest Bobbi Convery from Flickinger & Sutterfield. 

President Vaughn Park reminded board members of the monthly meeting next Thursday.

November 3 (Saturday) will be a district training for foundation and youth programs at Westminster College.

Kevin Williams
Dictionary Project: Greg Hudnall indicated there are six elementary schools awaiting distribution of dictionaries to their 3rd-graders and circulated a sign-up sheet. Kevin Williams reported on distribution of dictionaries at Timpanogos Elementary and Jim Calder reported on distribution of dictionaries at Wasatch Elementary.

Kevin Williams was sergeant for the day.


Vic Ludlow introduced today's speaker, Roger Thomas, Director of Provo Parks and Recreation for the past 16 years who gave a report on the wonderful things happening around the city:

Lakeview Park (next to Lakeview Elementary) is a new park
The North University Avenue greenway is new
Lions Park has a new trail system
Peaks Ice Arena has a new indoor soccer field
Pioneer Park is newly redesigned with a water feature under construction
Lakeshore Trailhead is a new park with police bike storage
Provo City Cemetery expansion project is underway with a mausoleum, cremation gardens and will permit upright monuments.
New Recreation Center will open in April 2013 and will incorporate a new senior center and will have a large outdoor skateboard park. The Provo parks staff will move to the recreation center.
There is a new shooting sports park and shooting range

Foothill Park near Seven Peaks is under design

Franklin Park at 600 South and 800 West has new soccer fields

Slate Canyon Park is under design (60 acres)

Spring Creek Park (near the cemetery) -- land just purchased

New park at 3900 North Canyon Road -- just purchased 8 acres for a new park
