Of more than 20 types of dementia, Alzheimer's makes up about 70% of all cases. There are more than 5.4 million victims in the US, 32,000 are in Utah with more than 6,000 of them in Utah Valley. More than 50% of Americans will contract Alzheimer's by age 85. In Utah about 80% are cared for in the home by loved ones.

Jack Jenks
The Alzheimer's Association offers support and education at no charge with 24/7 phone help. There are currently more than 200 clinical trials for potential new drugs. Alzheimer's is the fifth (5th) leading cause of death in the US with no cure in sight. It attacks brain cells, particularly those effecting motor and social skills.

  5. Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships.
  6. New problems with words in speaking or writing.
  7. Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps.
  8. Decreased or poor judgment.
  9. Withdrawal from work or social activities.
  10. Changes in mood and personality.
