Report of the Provo Rotary Club meeting May 9, 2013

Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club with President Vaughn Park conducting. Ron
Roberts provided dinner music. An invocation was offered by Nathan Beesley.

Guests included Dr. Sheri Coultrup, guest of Dean Jackson and Mike Plowman of the Utah National Parks Council, Boy Scouts of America, guest of Carol Walker.

Zions Bank is sponsoring their annual Spring Art Show at the

downtown Zions Bank tower on the evening of May 17. All Rotarians and guests are invited.

The annual America's Freedom Festival at Provo will sponsor the annual prayer breakfast May 17 at 9:00 a.m. at the downtown Provo Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. All Provo Rotarians are invited. RSVP required at 801-818-1776.

The Provo Rotary annual Service Above Self award will be given to fellow Provo Rotarian Ray Beckham at the regular club luncheon on 30.

Steve Tolley, associate district governor, presented the annual Presidential Citation to our club for 2012-2013.

Steve Densley introduced today's speaker, Craig Judd of Smart Financial who was assisted by Jewels Olsen. Craig spoke about saving and planning for retirement, social security, wills, trusts, and other matters related to retirement.

For this week's meeting,  Sven focused his thoughts on rejecting the populist movement circulating in today's politics and spoke about the necessity of a strong leader who shows compassion and isn't afraid to admit when he or she is wrong. Just another way to keep politics civil and promote goodwill in all aspects of life.
