Report of the Provo Rotary Club meeting May 23, 2013
Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club with President Vaughn Park conducting. Jill Moon lead the singing, Ron Roberts provided dinner music. An invocation was offered by Kevin Williams.

Jill Moon introduced her guest, Becky McDermott of the law firm Flickinger, Sutterfield and Boulton.

Greg Hudnall is retiring as the associate superintendent of the Provo School District after a distinguished career of more than thirty years. There will be an open house honoring him and his wife, MiLinda, Tuesday, May 28 at the school district offices in Provo.
President Vaughn Park announced that adult team leaders are needed for RYLA September 11-14 at Heber Valley Camp.
Paul Warner announced that volunteers are needed for the July 4 Grand Parade in Provo.

Steve Densley introduced today's speaker, Mike Washburn, President and CEO of Thanksgiving Point, who spoke glowingly of the growth of Thanksgiving Point over the past decade and particularly about the new children's museum, The Museum of Natural Curiosity, now under construction. With 45,000 square feet and a cost of $28 million it is slated to open in the spring of 2014.
Thanksgiving Point hosts an average of two corporate events daily, has a
wedding reception every other day or so. There are still about sixty acres to be developed. A FrontRunner stop is nearby. They have simplified memberships to be property-wide in four categories: single, single and a friend, family, and grandparents and grandchildren with unlimited admission to all venues for $175 per year.

Thanksgiving Point ranks in the top 1% of museums nationwide. It is 75% self-sustaining compared to an average of 30% in museums nationwide. Last year there were nearly 2,000,000 visitors. Over 60,000 attended the tulip festival this year to see the more than 280,000 tulips.
