Scott Kirkland introduced today's speaker, fellow Rotarian Quent Bates. Quent's first job after graduating from the United States Military Academy and subsequent service in the Corp of Engineers, was with Elevator Maintenance Company in Honolulu which was soon after purchased by Haughton Elevator Company. After spending nearly two year as a construction and service helper in Hawaii and Los Angeles he worked in the service, engineering and estimating departments as a trainee. He was transferred to San Francisco as a new equipment salesman. In 1964 he joined Charles W. Lerch and Associates as assistant to Mr. Lerch. In that elevator consulting business he subsequently served as vice-president, president and chairman. He is still a principal in that firm.
Quent is a professional engineer licensed in fourteen states and holds an MBA from the University of Denver. He was a founding member of the International Association of Elevator Engineers. He is past chair of the Elevator Escalator Foundation. He has written numerous elevator articles and presented papers to elevator, commercial and engineering/architectural groups. He is known worldwide as the "elevator guru."
He spoke about his personal creed and guiding principles. THANKS QUENT!
