Report of Provo Rotary Luncheon Meeting September 20, 2012

Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club. President Vaughn Park conducted with Ron Roberts providing the music. An invocation was offered by Don Jarvis.
 
Steve Skinner, District Governor-elect, visited our club today. Chief Rick Gregory introduced his guest, fellow Provo police officer Cliff Argyle.
 
President Vaughn Park thanked the golf party and canteen committee for a fun annual party last week at Watatch Mountain State Park.
 
The next meeting of the club's board will be Thursday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m.
 
Ray Beckham reported on an event yesterday morning at the new Front Runner train station in Provo during which the new art pieces for which our club contributed were dedicated. They will greet every visitor coming to Provo on the train which begins regular schedule service in December.
 
Fellow Rotarian Strat Wendelboe is in the hospital.
 
Former district Governor Tom Powell inducted a new member into the club. Danny Prager, Senior Database Architect for Nu Skin, was inducted into membership in the Provo Rotary Club. Former District Governor Dean Jackson and District Governor-elect Steve Skinner participated. WELCOME DANNY!
 
Rick Hood served as sergeant with questions of sevens: The seven deadly sins, the seven seas and the Seven Dwarfs. It was a good time!
 
Val Hale introduced today's speaker, LaVarr Webb, political columnist for the Deseret News. He presented a scholarly treatise about government which is typically slow, bulky and inefficient. All of this works to slow the government's powers of coercion. And it only works in a moral society.
 
He spoke briefly about the two most interesting state political races this election, the race for the new fourth congressional seat between Mia Love and Jim Matheson, and the race for the Salt Lake Mayor between Ben McAdams and Mark Crockett.
