Report of the Rotary luncheon meeting held Thursday, March 10, 2011
The meeting was conducted by Stan Miller. Ron Roberts played dinner music and accompanied the Anthem which was lead by Jill Moon. Dale Jackson offered an invocation.
Vic Ludlow reported that his wife, V-Ann, is in the University of Utah recovering from shoulder surgery and will soon go to Stonehenge in Orem for rehabilitation. Dwight Flickinger has been moved to a long-term care facility and would like visitors. If you wish to visit him please contact Jill Moon at 801.370.0505.
Rick Hood has accepted the assignment to be chair of the upcoming district Rotary "Torch Run" to be held Saturday morning, May 7, 2011 at the new track field at UVU. The club has committed to provide ten runners to run (or walk) during the run which is a fund-raising event for Polio Plus. Besides a lot of fun, our club has been asked to bring our canteen wagon and provide hamburgers and hot dogs. Mark your calendar and bring the family.

Craig Carlile introduced speaker Dean Sanpei, a first-term member of the Utah House of Representatives representing portions of north-east Provo. He spoke about the recently completed legislative session and his observations as a new member. Among the items he addressed are:
Feral Cats
Balancing the state's budget
Funding the expected 14,000 new students who will attend school in Utah next school year.
Medicaid reform
Immigration: Four separate bills including guest worker permits which require workers to learn English and pay taxes if they will be working in Utah.
GRAMA reform
The upcoming requirement to re-draw legislative districts all over the state based on information from the 2010 census
An effort to increase sales tax on food which did not pass
An effort to require school board members to run by parties rather than as non-partisan candidates. This issue did not pass.
