President Steve Tolley introduced speaker Dr. Stephen R. Covey, a Provo Rotarian, who spoke on the topic of his newest book, "The Leader in Me." This is a program that trains teachers how to teach students to become leaders. He gave a copy of the book to each person in attendance. This program has been tested in several schools around the world with universal success integrating leadership principles into all academic disciplines. He showed several videos highlighting the success of some of these pilot schools.
Steve Covey then invited his friend Boyd Craig to talk about the process of sponsoring schools to begin using this system. The owner of Panda Express restaurants sponsored a school near the company headquarters. It was such a success that he has now committed to sponsor a school in the area of every restaurant in the world (around 1,200 to 1,400 restaurants). In Utah Valley teachers from both Orchard Elementary and Noah Webser Academy charter school have been trained.
Steve's goal is to have one participating school in every school district in America.
