A big thank to Alicia Gettys, from the BYU Ballard Center, who came to speak with us last week. Here are a few key points and resources from her presentation:

1.       Checklist
a.       Scalable
b.      Sustainable
c.       Impactful
d.      Promote Self-Reliance
e.      Addresses a root-cause vs a symptom
2.       Kevin Starr: Lasting Impact
a.       Kevin Starr, Mulago Foundation director, looks for the best solutions to the biggest problems in the poorest countries. He thinks all projects need to answer four questions: Is it needed? Does it work? Will it get to those who need it? Will they use it correctly when they get it? Too many bad ideas are using up our limited resources and that needs to change.
3.       Design Kit: The Course for Human-Centered Design
a.       Is a curriculum that will introduce you to the concepts of human-centered design and how this approach can be used to create innovative, effective, and sustainable solutions for social change.
