Report of Provo Rotary Meeting Held May 22, 2014

 President Glen Zaugg Conducts the Meeting

Todays meeting was conducted by President Glen Zaugg with Ron Roberts playing the piano and Jill Moon leading the singing of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The opening prayer was given by Vaughn Park.

Paul Warner gave the chaplain's report and encouraged us to keep Alan Blom in our prayers as he deals with his Cancer treatments.

Today's guests included Tyler Vigue attending with Ray Beckham.  Tyler is a potential new member of the Club.  Guests from the UVU athletic department included Micah Howard, Director of the Wolverine Club and Kellen Hiser, Assistant Sports Information Director.  They were attending with our speakers, Greg Maas, UVU Soccer Coach.

Tom Powell, District 5420 Foundation Chairman, Talked about Polio Plus.  He said that "We as Rotarian's world wide have the goal to wipe out Polio completely.  It is a world wide Rotary member involvement.  Until the job is done, I would hope that every Provo Rotarian will do their part by contributing $32.00 a year to the Polio Plus Campaign."  We will continue our campaign through Thursday, so that anyone that wants to participate will be able to.  Thereafter we will remit the funds that we received to the District and Rotary International.

Sergeant Duties were handled by Linda Pemberton.

David Rogers introduces Greg Maas

David Rogers introduced Greg Maas, Men's Soccer Coach at UVU.  The UVU Athletic Department has just founded the first NCAA Division 1 Men's Soccer Program in the State of Utah.  

Soccer is by far the most watched and followed sport in the World. By contrast, over one billion people world wide watched the World Cup last year, while only 200 Million watched the Super Bowl.
Greg Maas is well qualified to head the new UVU program and hopes to tap the talents of 80,000 youth soccer players in the State to form a nationally promenent college soccer program.

Greg has been recruiting for the program and is now anxious to start UVU's inagural season.  Their first home gave will be August 30th against University of Massachusetts, a nationally recognized team. 
All are invited to attend the start of a new tradition at UVU.
