Report of the Provo Rotary Club meeting June 20, 2013

Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club with President Vaughn Park conducting. Ron Roberts provided dinner music. An invocation was offered by Joey Hansen.

 There is one spot left on the Clear Horizons golf tournament Rotary team. If you would like to golf and will bring along another golfer who is a potential Rotarian, please contact David Rogers.

Blake Romney, videographer for the Provo Channel who is a regular visitor at our meetings, one the grand prize at the Freedom Festival's video contest. Congrats Blake!

President Vaughn Park announced that Pete Pletsch will become the club's

new secretary/treasurer beginning July 1, 2013.

Next week will be the annual installation ceremony for new club officers who take office July 1, 2013.

Our speaker this week was Sven Wilson, professor and chair of the Political Science Department at BYU.  Sven is also the visionary and founder of the Character First movement as highlighted on the Doug Wright show on KSL radio . For this week's meeting,  Sven focused his thoughts on rejecting the populist movement circulating in today's politics and spoke about the necessity of a strong leader who shows compassion and isn't afraid to admit when he or she is wrong. Just another way to keep politics civil and promote goodwill in all aspects of life.

Today we were pleased to hear from Glenn Jakins. After being introduced by his brother and our fellow Rotarian Darrell Jakins, we were able to hear about his innovations and business ventures, as well as his journeys from Johannesburg, to Cape Town, to London, and eventually Utah.
