Report of Provo Rotary Luncheon Meeting November 8, 2012

Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club. President Vaughn Park conducted with Jill Moon and Ron Roberts providing the music. An invocation was offered by Andy Anderson.

The chaplain reported that Strat Wendelboe is still in the Stonehenge rehab facility. V-Ann Ludlow has recovered sufficiently that she has been moved to the Riverwood Specialty Hospital in Provo.

President Vaughn Park reminded everyone of the Boys and Girls Club gala tomorrow night at the Library at Academy Square in Provo. the Utah National Parks Council gala will be held Friday evening, November 16 at Riverside Country Club. If you would like to attend either please notify Stan Miller.

New officers for the Provo Rotary Club have been selected by the Past-Presidents Selection Committee according to club rules. The have selected the following:

Steve Tolley conducted
     David Rogers will serve as club president for one year beginning July 1, 2015.
 
     Three members have been selected to serve on the club's board beginning July 1, 2013:
          Joey Hansen
          Linda Palmer (continuing)
          Kevin Williams

Pete Pletsch

Tom Powel
Tom Powell introduced today's speaker Brent Ashworth. Brent is an avid collector and brought a few of his items to talk about. He is a member of the Provo Kiwanis Club and served as Kiwanis district governor for Utah and Idaho.

Brent told many fascinating stories about some of the items he brought to display including:

   A baseball signed by Babe Ruth
   An original document with George Washington's signature
   An original document with Abraham Lincoln's signature
   A silver dime from 1797
   Helen Keller's Bible
   Mary Todd Lincoln letter about her son Willy who died in the White House. It was noted that Mary Todd Lincoln was taller than her husband.
   A signed document from King Henry 8
   A pilgrim hat & gun dating back to the 1600s
   A signed photo of Howard Hughes
   The microphone used by Tokyo Rose in her famous broadcasts during WWII
   The outfit worn by Elvis Presley in the movie "Jail House Rock"
   A dress worn by Marilyn Monroe
   A letter signed by John Hancock, the most famous signature in US history
   Jackie Kennedy Onasis' riding hat
   A 1st edition (1890) Rules for Golf by Hoyle
   A flag that went to the moon on Apollo 11
   An outfit worn by Amelia Earhart
   The original printers' manuscript for the book "Jesus the Christ" by James E. Talmage
