Report of Provo Rotary Luncheon Meeting August 9, 2012
Today's meeting was held at Riverside Country Club. President Vaughn Park conducted with Ron Roberts providing the music. An invocation was offered by David Rogers.
Ron Pugh provided sign-up sheets for the annual summer party to be held in two weeks on August 23 at Jolley's Ranch.
President Vaughn Park made a historic announcement that our club has committed $50,000 toward construction of the new Provo Recreation Center at 500 North and 500 West in Provo. Don Jarvis introduced today's speaker Dr. Jaron Hansen, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at BYU. He spoke about some technological breakthroughs creating renewable energy with a process called anerobic digestion, or "Does it pay to make power from poop?" He and some colleagues have patents for new processes that turn animal and human waste, garbage and plant matter into gasoline and other energy products. He estimates that in time it could reduce America's reliance on foreign oil by 5-10%. See some of his Power Point presentation below:
