Report of the Rotary luncheon meeting held January 20, 2011
 
The Rotary luncheon was held at the Provo Downtown Marriott Hotel. President Steve Tolley conducted the meeting. Ron Roberts accompanied the singing of the Anthem and Pledge.  Gary Wiest offered an invocation.
 
Tom Powell introduced his guest, former Provo Rotarian Michael Frandsen.
 
President Steve Tolley reported on the annual all-clubs dinner held last Saturday evening at the University of Utah celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Utah. Wilt Chamberlain and Mark Eaton spoke.
 
President Steve Tolley reported on a recent news release from Don Jarvis and Steve Densley which resulted in a front-page article in the Daily herald about the Provo Rotary Club and our efforts to eradicate polio from the earth and raise awareness of this crippling disease.
 
Greg Hudnall welcomed Paul Warner as the newest member of the Provo Rotary Club. Paul is a retired professor at BYU, former Provo City councilman, and is currently serving as Executive Director of America's Freedom Festival.

Stan Miller introduced today's speaker, Becky Lockhart, who was recently elected as the first female speaker of the Utah House of Representatives and was named this week as one Utah's ten most influential persons.

Becky spoke on a variety of issues which will likely come up in the 2011 annual legislative session which convenes next week: 
  • Education funding
  • Method of electing members of the State Board of Education
  • Controlling illegal immigration
  • Controlling the state's budget
  • Redistricting for state legislative and US House districts.
  • The controversy of seating Representative Frank of Cedar City who was elected but later found to be living outside of the district which he was elected to serve.
