Report of the Provo Rotary Club meeting November 11, 2010
The Rotary luncheon was held at the Provo Downtown Marriott Hotel. President Steve Tolley conducted the meeting. Jill Moon lead and Ron Roberts accompanied the singing of the Anthem and Pledge. Alan Blom offered an invocation.

  • Ron Pugh introduced Dr. Wendell Fackrell
  • Ben Guffey, a former Provo Rotarian, is back in town with Keybank and was visiting
Andy Anderson served as sergeant and distributed a few free tickets to a UVU basketball game tomorrow evening.


Steve Royster, (pictured at right) Provo Rotarian and Executive for the Utah National Parks Council, began the program speaking about the special relationship between the military and the Boy Scouts of America and recognized all those in the group who have served in the US military or as Boy Scouts or Scout leaders.

John Gailey, (pictured above at left) Marketing Director for the Utah National Parks Council, spoke about the BSA's 100th birthday in 2010 and the five objectives of the BSA during this centennial year: Leadership, Achievement, Service, Character and Environmental Stewardship. The BSA had a goal of giving two million hours of volunteer service to America in 2010. The Utah National Parks Council has approximately 75,000 Scouts lead by 40,000 adult leaders.

Hal Miller, President of the Utah National Parks Council, told about the beginnings of the Boy Scout movement in England by Lord Robert Stevenson Smyth Baden-Powell in 1908 and its coming to America by a Chicago businessman named William Boyce in 1910 after visiting England and learning of the movement there. Hal also told a stirring story about his own introduction to Scouting as a youth.
