Glenn Jakins visits Rotary

Today we were pleased to hear from Glenn Jakins. After being introduced by his brother and our fellow Rotarian Darrell Jakins, we were able to hear about his innovations and business ventures, as well as his journeys from Johannesburg, to Cape Town, to London, and eventually Utah.

Our speaker this week was Sven Wilson, professor and chair of the Political Science Department at BYU.  Sven is also the visionary and founder of the Character First movement as highlighted on the Doug Wright show on KSL radio . For this week's meeting,  Sven focused his thoughts on rejecting the populist movement circulating in today's politics and spoke about the necessity of a strong leader who shows compassion and isn't afraid to admit when he or she is wrong. Just another way to keep politics civil and promote goodwill in all aspects of life.

August 20, 2107 Odell Miner Today we heard from Odell Miner, a candidate for Provo Mayor. Odell took questions from the group and talked a lot about the greatest asset that Provo has is its human capital; the people that live here. Odell Miner with Club President Nathan Beesley He talked about the power of neighborhoods and people in those neighborhoods to solve problems. We wish him well in the upcoming primary on August 15th. Provo Rotary Club takes a TRIP

Today the Provo Rotary Club toured the new Provo Orem Transportation Improvement Project (TRIP). Opening August 13, this new route will go from the Orem Central station to the East Bay area and everywhere in between. As Utah county grows, this project will prove vital to providing access to all Provo/Orem has to offer to those with disabilities and a growing number of students.
